The Seeker of Truth is a prophesied figure in the world created by Terry Goodkind, a champion chosen to wield the Sword of Truth and stand against ultimate evil. In the television series, Richard Cypher is named the Seeker in season 1, episode 1, 'Prophecy,' when the Confessor Kahlan Amnell arrives in Hartland to find him and the wizard Zeddicus Zu'l Zorander. Zedd reveals Richard's true heritage: he is the Seeker, destined to defeat the tyrant Darken Rahl. Seekers are traditionally accompanied by a Wizard of the First Order and Confessors—an ancient order of women whose touch can magically bind others to their will, tasked with overseeing the welfare of the Midlands. Richard's journey begins after Darken Rahl's army invades the Midlands, forcing him to accept a destiny he never knew about. The first season is loosely based on *Wizard's First Rule*, while the second season loosely adapts *Stone of Tears*. In season 2, Richard discovers that defeating Rahl unintentionally helped the Keeper of the Underworld create tears in the veil between the living and the dead, unleashing a new threat. It is later revealed that Darken Rahl is Richard's grandfather, not his father; Richard's true father is Panis Rahl, making Richard the heir to D'Hara. In the series finale, Richard refuses the crown and instead appoints a council to rule D'Hara, choosing not to become its ruler.

The story ignites when Darken Rahl's army storms the Midlands, driving the Confessor Kahlan Amnell to flee into the forbidden lands of Westland. There, she seeks the legendary wizard Zeddicus Zu'l Zorander and the prophesied Seeker—a young woodsman named Richard Cypher, whose quiet life of tracking and hunting is upended when he learns he is the one destined to defeat Rahl. Together, they embark on a perilous quest across war-torn realms, facing dark magic, betrayals, and the brutal Mord-Sith. In the second season, Richard, Kahlan, and Zedd discover a horrifying truth: their victory over Rahl inadvertently tore the veil between the living and the dead, empowering the Keeper of the Underworld. Their new quest is to find the Stone of Tears, seal the rifts between worlds, and defeat the Keeper. They are joined by Cara, a former Mord-Sith enemy whose fierce loyalty becomes a crucial asset.
